Bill “Spaceman”
Lee, a respected left-handed pitcher for the Boston
Red Sox and Montreal Expos, makes a rare Detroit appearance
to read and sign his books and speak about his major
league career. Throughout the 70’s the Spaceman
used his innate intelligence, charm, wit and strong
opinions to mesmerize the media and his fans much like
his famous “Space Ball” pitch dazzled opposing
hitters. Always perplexing to team management and fiercely
competitive on the mound, Lee has left a unique and
lasting impression. The Spaceman is the author of four
delightful baseball books including The Wrong Stuff,
Have Glove Will Travel and Baseball Eccentrics.
In November 2008 he will be inducted into the Boston
Red Sox Hall of Fame.
In his new book Willie Mays,
Art in the Outfield, Mike Shannon observes that
Mays played the game with “grace, skill, flair
and obvious delight.” An iconic “Super-Superstar”,
few baseball players have inspired contemporary fine
artists the way Mays has with his breathtaking play.
Shannon has studied more than 40 artistic impressions
of Mays and in the process has shed light on his “remarkable
and memorable” career. Shannon is a Cincinnati
based author with a unique perspective on this Hall
of Fame baseball legend.
