Monet, Van Gogh, and Rodin are a few of the artists
enthusiasts have come to enjoy during visits to the
Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). Beginning April 12
the museum invites everyone to view masterpieces by
the next generation of art greats during the 71st
Annual Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition.
Students from kindergarten to 12th grade
submitted works to a panel of judges in mediums including
drawing, ceramics, collages, and jewelry. The top creations
were awarded a place in the exhibition that will remain
on view at the Detroit Public Library-Main Library until
May 17.
“It is so inspiring to see creative
works by young people,” said Jennifer Williams,
associate educator for the museum’s student and
teachers programs. “Their art speaks of what appeals
to them, and in turn gives us insight into their world.
Everyone should take an opportunity to come out and
see this enlightening exhibit.”
An opening reception for students and
their families will be held from 1-3 p.m. on April 12
in the Old Fine Arts Room of the Detroit Public Library-Main
Library. Call (313) 833-7977 for more information.
The 71st Annual Detroit Public Schools
Student Exhibition was organized by the Detroit
Institute of Arts and the Detroit Public Schools and
is made possible with the support of the Ruth T. Cattell
Education Endowment Fund, the Michigan Council for Arts
and Cultural Affairs, and the City of Detroit.
