Vivian Diary, by Fatoumata Manjang

The novel by a widely-traveled 17-year-old girl from Uganda that spotlights Detroit. She will lead a book talk and reading of her well endorsed book, The Viviane Diary, an intricate story of remarkable love, tragic loss, superstition, Hip Hop, peer pressure and greed that actually begins in Detroit. She will talk about life of girls in Africa, what inspired her to write The Viviane Diary when she was only 14, and how young people aged 15-25 could deal with peer pressure, a major focus of her book.

Books available for purchase, event is free and open to teens, 13 –18. Library card and Detroit residency not required to attend. Tours of the HYPE Center for teens at the Main Library will follow.
