Vivian Diary, by Fatoumata Manjang
The novel by a widely-traveled 17-year-old girl from
Uganda that spotlights Detroit. She will lead a book
talk and reading of her well endorsed book, The Viviane
Diary, an intricate story of remarkable love, tragic
loss, superstition, Hip Hop, peer pressure and greed
that actually begins in Detroit. She will talk about
life of girls in Africa, what inspired her to write
The Viviane Diary when she was only 14, and how young
people aged 15-25 could deal with peer pressure, a major
focus of her book.
Books available for purchase, event is free and open
to teens, 13 –18. Library card and Detroit residency
not required to attend. Tours of the HYPE Center for
teens at the Main Library will follow.
