The Library Tour

Detroit Public Library art and architectural tour

The DPL Friends Foundation presents docent-led tours highlighting the art, architecture and collections of the Main Library.

Free, one hour docent-led tours of the Main Library are offered two Saturdays a month at 11:00 a.m.  Tours are limited to 40 people. Registration is required.

The tour highlights the architecture of Cass Gilbert, as well as the many works of famed craftsmen and architects. Our docents will share with you the history, art and architecture of Detroit’s acclaimed Main Library. You will discover the Grand Staircase, the Pewabic fireplace, the Ernie Harwell Room, and other surprises along your 1 mile walking journey.
