Author Talk: Historical Fiction with Sadeqa Johnson
The Author Series Committee at the Detroit Public Library is honored to welcome acclaimed historical fiction author Sadeqa Johnson. She will be visiting Detroit to celebrate the release of her latest book, the already hailed Keeper of Lost Children (37 Ink, 2026). In this new novel, one American woman’s vision in post WWII Germany will tie together three people in an unexpected way. Joining Sadeqa in conversation is local educator and author Adrienne Edwards

About Sadeqa: Sadeqa Johnson is a New York Times Bestselling author of six novels.
Her previous novel, The House of Eve was an instant New York Times Best Seller, Reese’s Book Club selection, Target Book Club pick, nominated for a NAACP Image Award and a 2023 Goodreads Choice award finalist.
Her previous novel, Yellow Wife, was named by Oprah Magazine as “27 of 2021 Most Anticipated Winter Historical Fiction books.” Yellow Wife was also a 2021 Goodreads Choice Award finalist for historical fiction, a 2022 Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy finalist, a BCALA Literary Honoree, the Library of Virginia’s Literary People’s Choice Award winner, and a Barnes & Noble book club pick in paperback.

About Adrienne: Adrienne Edwards is a native of Detroit, Michigan. She is the founder of the book club, Black Queens Who Reads. She amplifies Black voices through literature: predominantly by women authors. She created the bookclub with sisterhood in mind. One that bridges the gap between reading and coming together for embracing varying points of views and interesting dialogue.
Adrienne received her Michigan School Administration Certification recently, has a graduate degree in English & Creative Writing with a Concentration in Fiction, and a BA in Literature. She is a secondary English teacher and shares her passion for reading with her students by showing them that reading matters. Adrienne is also a self-published author and hopes to get her fourth book published in 2027.
