Tips & Strategies

A few simple strategies can help you write a great resume:

  1. Make a plan. Think about the type of work you want to do, the kind of company you want to work for, and the schedule you hope to have.
  2. Gather your info. To make a resume, you'll need basic information about your past jobs, education, and skills.
  3. Keep it clean. Employers won't study your resume, they'll skim it. Organize your info with clear headings and descriptions that can be read quickly.
  4. Be your own hype man. Describe your past job duties with words that clearly show your value to the company. Use action verbs (see links above) and explain how your duties helped accomplish something important.
  5. Get some help. Visit one of TLC Center for free resources and advice to help you get hired.
