Serving the Community Since 1940

The Mobile Library, also known as the Bookmobile, brings Detroit Public Library services to locations across Detroit and Highland Park.

Equipped with four public-use computers, free Wi-Fi, and a printer, the Mobile Library offers books for all ages in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Our Mobile Reference Librarian can issue and renew library cards, assist with selecting materials, and place holds for pickup on the Mobile Library or at any DPL branch.

Locations

During the school year, the Mobile Library primarily visits schools throughout Detroit and Highland Park. In the summer, it can be found across the city at destinations such as Eastern Market, the Riverfront, neighborhood parks, and community events.

Mobile Library Summer 2026 Calendar

The calendar generally follows the schedule below, with some exceptions for holidays and special events.

Mondays

9am - 10:30am: Lasky Recreation Center, 13200 Fenelon St, Detroit, 48212
11am - 12:30pm: Knapp Branch, 13330 Conant, Detroit, 48212
1pm - 2:30pm: Michigan Welcome Center, 2835 Bagley St., Detroit, 48216

On fourth Mondays of the month, there are Senior Mobile Library stops instead of Lasky and Michigan Welcome Center. The Mobile Library stops at Bella Vista (369 Glendale Street, Highland Park, 48203) from 9am-10am and Roberts III Apartments (3901 Grand River Avenue, Detroit, 48208) from 1pm-2:30pm.

Tuesdays

Beginning June 16th:

9am - 2:30pm: Eastern Market - between Sheds 2 & 3

Wednesdays

9am - 10am: Ernest T. Ford Recreation Center, 10 Pitkin Street, Highland Park, 48203
11:30am - 12:30pm: Model T Plaza, 91 Manchester, Highland Park, 48203
1pm - 2:30pm: POST, 14500 Kercheval, Detroit, 48215

Wednesdays 6/24/26, 7/29/26, and 8/26/26 include Senior Mobile Library stops and follow a different schedule:

9am - 10:30am: Eden Manor / Evangelical Manor, 6720 West Outer Drive, Detroit, 48235
