1915 Lincoln Jubilee

1915 Lincoln Jubilee

In 1915, the State of Michigan sponsored a delegation of Black Michiganders to the Chicago-based Lincoln Jubilee—a celebration marking the fiftieth anniversary of the end of enslavement in the United States. While there, they exhibited numerous inventions, agricultural products, works of art, handicrafts, and data regarding Black businesses, property ownership, social networks, and military service. Join historians David Head and Valerie Marvin, and Dr. Anita Moncrease, to learn more about the men and women behind this fascinating project, and the modern effort to carry their work forward.
