Not a resident of Detroit or Highland Park? You may still be eligible for a free library card if you ...
- Are a student or employee at a Detroit school (pre-kindergarten through university)
- Are a teacher or other employee at a Detroit school
- Work for the City of Detroit
- Own property in Detroit
If none of the above situations apply, you have several options.
- If you have a valid card from a participating MILibraryCard library, you are eligible for free borrowing privileges of print items from the DPL collection. MILibraryCard privileges do not allow access to DPL’s online resources, including Kanopy, Hoopla, or Overdrive/Libby. View a list of participating MILibraryCard libraries.
- Non-residents may also obtain a full-access Detroit Public Library card for an annual $150 fee. Bring valid identification and a method for payment to any Detroit Public Library location (cash or check is accepted at any location, cards are accepted at Main Library circulation).
- Businesses located in Detroit can request a free company library card to borrow materials from the Detroit Public Library. Learn how to request a company card.
