Author Series Events for March 2025

The Detroit Public Library is excited to present four amazing in-person Author Series events this March at the Main Library. Join us for talks by V.M. Burns, Daniel Black, Alencia Johnson and Jessica Nabongo, and Bridgett M. Davis.

Sunday, March 9th, 2025
2pm - 4pm in the Galleria at Main

The Author Series is thrilled to welcome Valerie (V.M.) Burns, an acclaimed mystery writer and finalist for the Agatha, Anthony, Edgar, and Next Generation Book Awards. She is the author of several series, including Mystery Bookshop, Dog Club, RJ Franklin, and Baker Street Mysteries, as well as Bailey the Bloodhound Mysteries under the name Kallie E. Benjamin. Valerie is a member of several prestigious crime writer organizations and an adjunct professor in Seton Hill University's Writing Popular Fiction Program.

The Author Series at the Detroit Public Library welcomes Dr. Daniel Black. The beloved author of Don't Cry for Me and Perfect Peace returns with Isaac's Song, a poignant, emotionally exuberant novel about a queer young Black man finding his voice in 1980s Chicago. It is a novel of family, forgiveness, and perseverance, for fans of The Great Believers and On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous.

The Author Series Committee welcomes award-winning leader, advisor and commentator Alencia Johnson for an engaging discussion with Detroit native Jessica Nabongo. Bridgett M. Davis

The Detroit Public Library's Author Series welcomes Bridgett M. Davis to discuss her forthcoming memoir, Love, Rita: An American Story of Sisterhood, Joy, Loss, and Legacy. Davis shares the story of her sister Rita, a vibrant woman whose life was tragically cut short by lupus at 44. Through Rita's life, the memoir explores family, love, and the enduring impact of racism on Black women and their loved ones. This poignant, deeply moving portrait is a must-read.
