The Detroit Public Library now brings you bedtime stories! For the past year, our children’s librarians have been recording virtual story times for our young patrons to watch at home. In each video, parents and children can tune in together to watch, listen, and enjoy favorite books read by library staff. In this new series, the librarians are selecting stories perfect for the evening hour.
“When a parent reads to a child at bedtime, they are fostering a relationship that will allow them to share information about their day and more” says children’s librarian Jo Ann Mannino (Mrs. M). In fact, there are many benefits to reading a story before bed, including lowering stress, introducing new words, and improving imagination. For Mrs. M, “when a parent reads to their child it sends a message to the child to value reading because it is a FUN, and an important skill to perfect.”
So make “Bedtime Stories with the Detroit Public Library” a new part of your evening routine. You can watch story time videos on the library YouTube channel at http://bit.ly/DPL-BedtimeStories, Facebook, and website at www.detroitpubliclibrary.org.
