Find your furry soulmate at the Detroit Public Library! On Sunday, May 19 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control will bring adoptable dogs eager to find their forever homes to the Main Library at 5201 Woodward Ave. Whether you're looking to expand your fur family or just want to spend some quality time with adorable adoptable dogs, this event is perfect for all animal lovers! Free digital pet keychain will be available to the first 50 kids under the age of 18.
May is National Pet Month, and marks a one-year partnership between the library and Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control (FDACC). Katie Klaver, a librarian at the Edison Branch, first worked with the organization to host a Pet Ownership Series. This monthly series connects the community with local vets, animal trainers, and animal control and licensing experts who answer questions, share resources, and provide free bags of dog food. The Edison Branch also offers a weekly storytime that lets children read to shelter dogs. The kids get to practice their reading skills and the dogs get to work on socialization.
According to Ms. Klaver, "I am so excited to celebrate a year of programming in partnership with Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control. Together we are hoping to help our community by finding forever homes for a large number of dogs that need them, and to provide resources to the families in our community to make pet ownership accessible to all."
