The Music Room, located on the third floor of the Detroit Public Library Main Library, was originally envisioned in 1921 as a space for live concerts and performances. The room was designed with a coffered ceiling and double pocket doors for better acoustics and to minimize sound throughout the rest of the library. The Music, Arts and Literature Department is honoring the history of the space by hosting concerts once more!
Join us on Fridays at 4:00 pm for an eclectic selection of musicians and genres, sure to appeal to a wide range of interests and tastes.
According to Cully Sommers, Manager of the Popular Library/Music, Arts, and Literature Departments, “The Friday Concert Series fulfills DPL's mission to be an educational and cultural hub. It gives Detroiters an opportunity to enjoy free music, to engage in new experiences, and to cultivate cultural intelligence. The Music Department celebrates music, musical artists, and music appreciation.”
