Meet Charlene Hyland!

Charlene Hyland

Meet Charlene Hyland. Miss Charlene has been a Children's Librarian for Detroit Public Library for 35 years, working at 11 branches on the East Side, West Side, and basically "all around the town". Currently Miss Charlene is at the Conely Branch in Southwest Detroit. Her customers and staff at each branch have become "family" and she welcomes the opportunity to meet and make new friends.

This summer, Miss Charlene is bringing a virtual weekly story time called "Happily Ever After with Miss Charlene and "D" the Dragon" to library patrons. Miss Charlene hopes the children who listen to the stories will have as much fun as she is recording them and are encouraged to join the library’s 313 Summer Reading Challenge. Miss Charlene is also participating in a Virtual Book Club with the 7th grader teachers and students from Priest Elementary School in Southwest Detroit. They are reading the YA title "She Wore Red Trainers" by Na'ima B. Robert.

Miss Charlene just finished re-reading "The Tale of Despereaux" by Kate DiCamillo, one of her favorite books. She has just started reading the Young Adult title "Hunting Prince Dracula" by Kerri Maniscalco, a scary mystery.

Be sure to watch Miss Charlene every Monday at 11 am on the Detroit Public Library Facebook page for her story time!
