Emily Thomson has been working at the Detroit Public Library since 2013. She is currently at the Bowen Branch in Southwest Detroit where she is the Assistant Manager. While she’s a children’s librarian, Ms. Emily thought it was important to focus on middle readers. When the library started discussing ways to continue to serve the public during the current Covid-19 crisis, Ms. Emily elected to submit a suggestion for older readers.
According to Ms. Emily “online story time for younger readers had already been filmed and shared during the summer, but there seemed to be an open space for activities for older readers as well. Since they can’t come to the library to check out books, and may not have access to new books at home, I want to bring one or two to them.” With her online book club, Ms. Emily hopes that she will be able to bring families a book club and discussion experience that they can participate in from the safety of their own homes.
Currently, Ms. Emily is reading "The Highland Outlaw" by Heather McCollum to review for the Greater Detroit Romance Writers of America.
