Kalana Cooper joined the Detroit Public Library in October 2005 and currently works as an Adult Services Librarian at the Chase Branch. Kalana uses her passion for programming to introduce workshops and training to the library patrons that foster creativity and provides fun learning experiences to adults. In fact, Kalana is most excited when she is teaching an art class, assisting in a fitness and wellness class, or having candid discussions and workshops about social issues surrounding the African American community.
Over the past 5 years, Kalana has served on the African American Booklist committee where she creates annotated bibliographies and hand selected reading recommendations by African American authors. Currently, she is reading “Beautifully Organized: A Guide to Function and Style in Your Home” by Nikki Boyd.
While working from home, Kalana is making DIY video content and in her free time is tending to her garden and teaching herself how to crochet. She has currently made three small blankets and is looking to learn a new pattern!
