Meet Simon DeSalvo!

Simon DeSalvo has been working as a librarian at the Detroit Public Library since 2017, and as an adult services librarian since 2015. While Simon works primarily at our Chaney, Sherwood Forest, and Lincoln Branches, he has worked at 19 of our 22 branches, so you've probably seen him at least once! While at home, Simon is working with librarian Adam to record a podcast entitled “Bored Librarians.” According to Simon, “we're doing a podcast because I have a good microphone (blue snowball) leftover from my YouTube channel days, and getting audio recordings to sync up is considerably easier with tools like discord, anchor.fm, and the like. Plus, no one needs to see my quarantine hair!”

Simon really wanted to do highlight the library’s amazing digital collections that customers still have access to even though our physical locations are closed. “I definitely think art can help people get through this, whether it's a book, a comic, music, movies, whatever; and I hope our podcast can help people find something and feel more connected to a real human being and not just a recommendation algorithm.”

Aside from the podcast, Simon is filling his time playing through his pile of video games and reading comics.

Simon’s coworker is FiFi!
