Meet Vernadette

Vernadette

Vernadette McAllister, also known as “Ms. Mack,” has worked at the Detroit Public Library for 20 years. During her time at the library, she has worked at several branches in various roles. Currently, Ms. Mack works as the Children's Librarian and Manager at the Knapp Branch and is a member of the Outreach Committee. She enjoys working with the public and developing interesting and resourceful collections for the library community.

Ms. Mack has a special place in her heart for the Knapp Branch community, especially the children and teens. She has organized programs for all ages, but recently has had the opportunity to build new relationships with the adults through the Adult Painting Class she organized. This summer Ms. Mack missed interacting with families and teen volunteers during the annual Summer Reading Program, but was able to find joy working with the Outreach Committee. As part of the Outreach Committee, she traveled throughout the city of Detroit on the Mobile Library, visiting Food Distribution sites, Recreational Centers, and other organizations bringing free new books and prizes to the children, teens, and seniors of Detroit.

In her spare time, Ms. Mack enjoys reading mysteries and nonfiction, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
