Library Photography and Videography
Classes, programs
or events that take place at the Detroit Public Library may be
photographed or recorded by library staff or its representatives.
Attendance at any program or event hosted at DPL constitutes the consent
of all attendees, and the consent of the parents or legal guardians of
any minor children in attendance, to the future broadcast, publication,
or other use of photographs or videos at the sole discretion of the DPL.
The library may utilize photos and videos from public programs and
events at the library on its website social media, and in publications.
To ensure the privacy of all individuals, including children, images
will not be identified using full names or personal identifying
information without written approval from the photographed subject,
parent or legal guardian.
Commercial Photography
The Detroit Public Library does not permit commercial photography or videography inside any library location. Prohibited photography includes but is not limited to wedding, elopement, engagement, graduations, portraits, family reunions, etc. Photography and videography is allowed outside of the library, barring it is not disruptive or impede customer access.
Personal Photography
Casual
amateur photography and videography is permitted in the public areas of
the library for noncommercial use. Library operations, staff and
customers must not be disrupted and inconvenienced, and therefore
professional equipment such as lighting and tripods are prohibited.
Casual photography means photographs of the building, collections, art
and architecture, or programs, on a cell phone or camera for personal
use only. NOT allowed are group photographs of engagements, weddings,
elopements, weddings, portraits, graduations, etc. even if no
professional photographer is present.
Press, News and Media Photography
Members of the media can obtain permission to photograph and record in the Detroit Public Library by contacting the Marketing Department at: marketing@detroitpubliclibrary.org
