Caribbean Carnival Design Workshop
Ralph Taylor is a native of Trinidad where at a very young age he began learning from his family the art of making costumes for Carnival as well as welding. Over forty years ago he immigrated to Detroit to pursue a welding career while continuing to pursue his passion for Carnival costume design and production. Ralph’s costumes are commissioned for Mardi Gras parades throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean, and he has received numerous awards. In addition, he has successfully collaborated with several regional and international organizations, including Marche du Nain Rouge and DLECTRICITY.
Caribbean Mardi Gras Production will create a Carnival Experience. The experience will start with a workshop to introduce the skills needed to design and make the costumes. This class will accommodate up to 20 participants.
1. Introduction to the history behind Carnival and costume making.
2. Hands on instruction teaching how create your customized carnival costume using various materials such as foam, feathers, cardstock paper etc.
3. At the end of the workshop everyone will have a headdress to wear in your very own Carnival Parade.
