Celebrating Mrs. Jones: DPL's First African American Director

Dr. Renate Chancellor will discuss her new book, Clara Stanton Jones: Breaking Glass Ceilings in the Detroit Public Library. The biography tells the story of Clara Stanton Jones, the first woman to direct a major public library system in the United States and the first African American president of the American Library Association. Karen Lemmons, a retired DPSCD school librarian/teacher, will lead the conversation with Dr. Chancellor. Ms. Lemmons has been actively involved with the American Association of School Librarians and the Young Adult Library Services Association.
