The Detroit Public Library will be participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, providing after school meals at select library locations beginning the week of October 13, 2025.
Youth 18 years of age and younger, as well as adults with physical and mental disabilities, will be eligible for the meals.
The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides nutritious meals and snacks to eligible children and adults, and the Detroit Public Library is honored to partner with Forgotten Harvest to offer these after school meals to our communities.
According to Vernadette McCallister, Coordinator of Major Activity-Children's Services at the Detroit Public Library, “CACFP enables DPL to provide a second or even third meal to children whose families may struggle to put food on the table during the week. Teachers and administrators often express concern that their students do not have sufficient food over the weekend. Thanks to this program, children at three of our locations will now be able to receive a meal on Saturdays.”
