From Noon – 2:00 p.m. on September 1, 2023, Gleaners employees and volunteers will visit library locations to answer questions about Gleaners, Hunger Action Month and talk about ways to get involved in the fight against hunger and how you can make a difference.
Detroit— September is Hunger Action Month to raise awareness about food insecurity across the United States – and in our own community. Gleaners is partnering with the Detroit Public Library to help our neighbors get involved in solving hunger across Metro Detroit. All 17 Detroit Public Library locations are hosting food and fund drives for Gleaners throughout the month of September.
How can you help? Each Detroit Public Library location will be accepting donations of shelf-stable food throughout the month of September. Gleaners is always in need of protein rich foods including canned chicken or tuna, peanut butter and beans, as well as protein drinks like Boost and Ensure. Other great suggestions are hearty soups, canned vegetables and fruits, cereal and oatmeal. In addition to collecting food at the library, Gleaners is also running a virtual food drive.
So be sure to visit the Detroit Public Library during the month of September to participate in the Gleaners Food and Fund Drive. Food stability enables our customers to pursue continued learning and literacy, encouraging the success of our collective community.
