The Detroit Public Library celebrates National Library Week (April 7 – 13, 2024) as we recognize the importance of libraries, library workers and the special place that the library holds in the community.

This year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Library!” The Detroit Public Library is a crucial member of the community, offering key resources such as computer and technology access, reading and literacy skills, assistance to job seekers and those wanting to further their education, and early learning and reading support for families. The library also provides fun and enriching programs from book clubs and author discussions, art and craft classes, and even concerts.

National Library Week is the perfect time to visit the Detroit Public Library and get your library card! With a Detroit Public Library card, you can…

· Check out a laptop and Wi-Fi hotspot for 90 days

· Stream popular movies, documentaries, television shows and even music

· Download e-Books, audiobooks and magazines

· Access digital resources and databases including those for genealogy, stock and mutual fund values, and auto repair manuals

· Discover unique items to check out such as sheet music, cook books, vinyl records, and graphic novels

How to Get a Library Card

· Live in Detroit or Highland Park

· Apply in person at any Detroit Public Library location. You will need your driver’s license or state ID and proof of residency or student status.

The Detroit Public Library is fine free—there are no more fines for late items (though you will have to pay for damaged or lost items).
