Summer Stories & Movement
Wednesdays, June 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, 10:30 – 11:30 am
In Family Story Hour, enjoy books, songs, music, movement, playful activities, crafts and surprises for children and caregivers. Children will develop early literacy skills, coordination, and a love for reading — all while having a blast!
Art Explorers Summer Adventures
Thursdays, June 26, July 3, 10, 17 24 & 31, 5:00 – 6:30 pm
Explore color and the richness of art through different artists. Participants will then weave each artist's techniques into their own works. For ages 5 and up.
Who? What? Summer Reading Club
Tuesdays, July 1, 8, 22 & 29, 2:00 – 3:30 pm
Participants will engage with a Who Is or What Is book and enjoy a journey through real-life adventures and characters. We’ll share our thoughts, do creative activities, and spark our imaginations together.
Color Our World: With Dolls
Wednesday, July 2, 2:00 – 3:30 pm
Fill your world with color and fun! Make your own special doll to enjoy the summer days with you. A great family-fun event. For ages 6 and up.
DU Drop-In
Thursdays, July 3 & 10, 3:00 – 4:45 pm
Drop in at Duffield, bring a friend- enjoy building with Legos, playing board games or a chance at Bingo.
Braid & Bloom: Hair Braiding Workshop
Mondays, July 7, 14 & 21, 2:00 – 3:30 pm
Learn the basic braiding techniques for cornrows, box braids (knot & knotless), twists and more as well as basic hair care, in this three-session, hands-on workshop which builds on from the previous session, so attendance at each is necessary. For ages 7 and up.
Peg + Cat Experience (Ages 3 - 5)
Wednesday, July 9, 10:30 – 11:30am
Join Peg and her lovable sidekick Cat as they solve problems and explore the world of early math. This session by Detroit PBS Kids will feature Peg + Cat video screenings, engaging math activities, and storytime with related books.
Color Our World: Eating the Rainbow
Wednesday, July 9, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
A vibrant and “tasty” nutrition program designed to teach kids the importance of eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables every day! This hands-on experience will help children understand how different colors in their food provide different vitamins, minerals, and health benefits. Presented by Michigan State University Extension.
Magic Colors Our World: Magic Show

Adult Screening: Building the Reading Brain

Color your world in this floral arrangement class designed for families! Learn basic flower arranging techniques, and flower care tips. Create your own beautiful bouquet and take home your floral masterpiece for yourself or as a gift. For ages 4 and up.
Exotic Zoo Comes to Duffield
Wednesday, July 23, 3:00 – 4:00 pm
The Exotic Zoo visits the Duffield Branch bringing creatures for children of all ages to observe and learn about their behaviors, hear about their habitats, and interact with them in a safe, controlled setting. This adventure is designed to provide an immersive, educational, and thrilling experience for children of all ages.
Color Our World: Tie-Dye and a Scavenger Hunt
Friday, July 25, 2:00 – 3:30 pm
Enjoy an outdoor water, paint and T-shirt tie-dye adventure, and a scavenger hunt to wrap things up. Adventurers will take their dyed shirts home with instructions to wash and dry. For ages 4 and up.
Odd Squad Experience (Ages 5-8)

Step into the world of Odd Squad with Detroit PBS Kids! This hilarious and educational show helps kids build math skills while solving weird and wacky mysteries. We’ll bring Odd Squad to life with video clips, hands-on activities, and fun themed books.
