Summer Reading 2026 at Sherwood Forest

Summer Reading Kickoff Party
Wednesday, June 17, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. 
Enjoy a science show followed by summer reading registration, face painting, and cold treats. All ages.   

Roar & Read Baby and Toddler Time
Mondays, June 1 – July 27, 11:00 am – Noon  
Stories, rhymes, songs, and play for families with babies and toddlers. For ages 0-4.   

Fossil Fun Art Studio
Fridays, June 5 – July 24, 4:00 – 5:00 pm 
Explore dinosaurs, ancient creatures, and fossil wonders through art. For ages 5+  

Drop-in Craft: Father’s Day Mugs
Monday, June 15, 2:00 – 5:00 pm 
Stop by to decorate a mug to give to someone special and show your gratitude for their care. For ages 4+   

Juneteenth Cooking Class for Families
Thursday, June 18, 2:00 – 4:00 pm 
Learn about Juneteenth and prepare a delicious celebratory snack with Michigan State University Extension.  

America250 Book Read & Giveaway
 Tuesday, June 23, 3:00 – 4:00 pm 
Author and public historian Heather Bruegl will read her children’s book, Gaining U.S. Citizenship. A free copy of the book will be given to participants based on availability. For ages 8+ 

Footprints
Wednesday, June 24, 2:00 – 3:30 pm 
Hosted by 826michigan, turn mystery footprints into unforgettable stories! Participants imagine the animals behind the tracks, then collaborate to create a thrilling Choose Your Own Adventure. For ages 5+   

Pizza Party with Brilliant Detroit
Thursday, June 25, 2:00 – 3:00 pm 
Enjoy pizza and bingo with the Fitzgerald Hub of Brilliant Detroit while learning about their programs and resources for families. For ages 4+   

Dino-mite Cookie Decorating Class
Wednesday, July 8, 3:30 – 5:00 pm 
Learn how to decorate Jurassic-ally delicious cookies!  his program is limited to 15 children plus their caregiver and is first-come, first-served on the day of the program. For ages 4+ 

Poly Plastic Dinosaurs
Wednesday, July 15, 2:00 – 3:00 pm 
Green Living Science will show us how dinosaurs turned into things we recycle today. We'll read about Poly Plastic and make some prehistoric pals out of reusable items! For ages 5+   

LEGO Challenge: Saving Today’s Dinosaurs
Wednesday, July 22, 2:00 – 3:30 pm 
Help our planet and birds, today's dinosaurs, through play and discussion. For ages 5+   

Escape Route
Wednesday, July 29, 2:00 – 3:30 pm 
Hosted by 826michigan, explore dinosaurs through fossils and photos, then dream up a fun escape plan just in case their dino friend turns out to be less than friendly! For ages 5+   

End of Summer Reading Celebration
Friday, July 31, 2:00 – 3:00 pm 
Join us for a baby dinosaur party, followed by summer reading prize drawings to celebrate the end of summer reading. For all ages.
